Golden Valley Route

Orange Grove Bend

This 2300mm radius, 22.5 degree double mainline curve module uses Fremo HO-US Valley2 end profiles.

It features a grove of orange trees, hence the name :).

Plywood frames and blue foam

The end-panels are 14mm plywood and the sides are 8mm plywood. As a base for my landscape I used 50mm blue foam, on top of this I've glued some regular white styrofoam

Hobby felt

As a base for my WS ground foam, I first glue some sand colored hobby felt on top of the foam. In the picture one can also see that the cork roadbed and ties from Central Valley Model Works are in place.

Gound foam & Ballast

First layer of ground foam

Dried Grassland

The recipe for the 'Dried grassland' can be found here:
http://www.fremo.org/h0-usa/index_en.htm
  • 2 parts Woodland scenics T43 (Yellow grass)
  • 1 part Woodland scenics T44 (Burnt grass)
  • 2 parts Woodland scenics T50 (Earth blend)

Ground foam 'Dried grassland' + some higlights using WS T44 (Burnt Grass)

After preparing the ties and glueing the rails (Micro Engineering code83) with CA to the ties, it's time for the ballast.
I have used Woodland Scenics fine gray blend. After the ballast has been glued using white glue / water/detergent/alcohol mix, I weathered the ballast following these steps.
