Golden Valley Route

Hand laying track, Central Valley Model Works

CVMW markets higly detailed tie strips and turnout kits.
The ties are plastic, but has self-gauging molded tie-plate.

Example of tie spacing: main line (top) vs. siding(bottom)

Main line

I start off by first removing the flash. I then paint all the ties Polly Scale Grimy black
When the ties are dry, I paint about 80% of them with PS Railroad Tie Brown and about
10% with a mix of Railroad Tie Brown and SP Lettering Gray.
The tie-plates are painted with PS Roof Brown.

When the tie strip has dried, I glue it to the cork road bed. Before glueing the (Micro Engineering code 83) rails in place, I paint them with PS Roof Brown.
After the rails have been glued, I ballast the track and finally paint the rails and tie-plates again.

Here the rails have been detailed with fish plates from Proto 87.
